Due to the high number of "Grey" (foreign) imports it has become clear that many clubs are having to issue warnings about the transmitters used at the flying sites. An import from any other country is not guaranteed to be legal in the UK, the best way to ensure the transmitter is UK legal is to buy from a known UK supplier and ensure that the radio has a CE Mark. The CE mark shows that the unit is to an acceptable European standard but this will not guarantee that it will be UK legal as other countries have diffrent transmition powers and frequencies. If found to be using an illegal transmitter your BMFA insurance would be invalid. There are people in HongKong that are selling illegal sets to the UK with fake CE markings, these should be avoided as we (as normal people) have no way of testing them to ensure they are UK Legal. If you do import a radio from another country it is the importers responsibility to ensure it is UK legal. If using a radio, its the users responsibility to ensure they have a legal set and satisfy the BMFA insurance documents. The Power and frequency of all transmitions are regulated by
