Futaba gy401 on t-Rex 500 ESP with ds520 rudder servo. Is this a good combination? How good is futaba gy401 compared to align gp 780 any way?

Hi Raj
The 401 is quite an old gyro, but they are well liked because they are simple and reliable. The GP780 is good....but is very sensitive to any tail and vibe issues. In my opinion go for a Spartan...either DS760 or quark. There are a lot of gyro bargains about with everyone going flybarless.

I have a DS760 and USB interface for sale, but it might be a little larger for the 500.

Thanks for the reply Mike! the gy401 has come along with the heli I bought off eBay recently. Is this gyro ok to do basic 3d such as loops, flips etc?

The gy401 should be more than up to it...but I'd be very tempted to have a chat to Andy about the Spartan. It won't be too big, I managed to fit a ds760 on my trex 250!

My old Raptor 50 V2 had a GY401 gyro. The GY401 will do 3D just as good as the next Align or Futaba gyro. My Raptor was always rock steady in the tail. As it came with the heli it won't hurt to try out.

Think it will be fine raj, but my advice is take it easy for a while wouldn't be too worried about 3d for the minute .... Don't wanna see you wreck and lose heart mate.

That's very true mate! By 3d I meant basic loops, flips and some inverted flying that's all. In fact what I have just said might not be 3d at all
Any way! Thanks for suggestions guys! I am a bit relieved now!

Check the unit is a genuine Futaba one as There are a number of clones of the 401 and some of them dont work too well.

Test it, if it works keep it. If not, chat to Andy...But.........I recently changed my 500ESP to FBL with Beastx and RJX head...I now love it more than before.

I have a GY401 on my trex600 nsp and it works fine.
These are as good as the gp750/780 in my opinion
I have all three to compare
make sure you get a decent tail servo,
as that seem's to be where most people have problems with the tail not holding
