The box of wood arrived this morning, I will check over the kits and make sure they are all ok. People can collect from tonight or i will bring them to the patch on Sunday (and Saturday if i can get out of shopping).

The main box has been opened and the kits are flat pack wood in plastic bags, there are no instructions but these can be downloaded and printed from the web.

Great!   Now I can start on no 2.    No 1  is now finished and balances in about the right place with no ballast.  THe o/a weight has crept up to 350gms  12.4 oz.  Any one that needs advice during the build process can pm me.  I can't upload pictures,  meant to learn but have never got a round tuit so I'll bring it on Sunday.   I see that the weather is forcast as snow/rain that morning;  with hindsight cancelling last Sunday was a bad idea sorry!

Thanks for the reminder Chris   But I have to do the 'transfer from the camera to pc bit first do I not?  and that's the bit I have not a clue about.

Now that the kits have arrived and mine delivered in person (don't all expect such superb service) we will all soon be starting the build.
I can't comment on the box art and the quality packing of the parts as there is no box and only one bag.  However the low tack masking tape is a nice touch and so easy to peel off.  The wood for the wings seems light and the stab/fin parts are of suitably firmer wood.  Only one of the wing parts needed a knife to release it and only a little sanding of the nibs will be required to have it all fitting together in a trice.   Hmmmm   how long is a trice?  Tis a pity that the wing is in 4 major pieces but it must be to keep the length below some postal limit.   I seem to remember that the buid instructions mentioned harder wood for the trailing edge,  but this kit has soft wood,  don't suppose it matters that much.   Must get to a LHS for some 1/4 triangle stock before they all sell out, from past experience I will probably need 4 lengths.   Oh! and Gareth,  the ailerons on my No1 are not too large, the trailing edge strip makes up the apparent difference.
One last thing,  someone mentioned out of balance spinners, How right they were.   My slpso no1 has a 1 1/2 " plastic 2 piece type which was out sufficiently to cause a worrying vibration when run  but I managed to mount it on a long straight tube and use my prop balancer to correct it.

Thanks for the update Tim,

I opened my plastic bag last night and within 5 minutes i had a dry assembled fuz, in another 2 minutes i had a dry assembled wing. I will put photo's up of the first 10 minutes of building later when home.

If you can do a 30 piece jigsaw then you will have no problems with this. It is all tabbed and just clips together.

FWIW, having seen it fly I think the prop size may be too much, the torque from the prop would explain the yaw which was making the tail look so low through right hand turns  and ultimately leading to the spin.  With no rudder to help there's nothing to counter prop torque.   Normally models of this type are designed for a smaller, high revving prop.  Does anyone know what Mr Daniels instructions say about max prop size?

The distructions state 4.2 - 4.5 inch prop. I will get a build thread going shortly and get the model built and try out the motor setup.

I think you'll find that Tim has a confession to make about the size of the fin. The only reason that I know anything about it is that I caught him at an un-guarded moment...

The photo was meant to show me a little dejected as I had just crashed it due to an unintentional spin. I should know better than to stretch the flight envelope on only the third flight.
The damage is not too bad;  bent motor shaft(already replaced), firewall came loose, broken prop, both pegs on the front of the wing went missing (oops! no glue) and the very end of the fuz is cracked.  So,  a few spots of glue and she'll be as good as new.

Oh yes  thanks for the reminder Andy.   I made the fin too small,  somehow I managed to make 2 templates and used the wrong one to cut out the fin so I'll make a new one the right size tonight.
I had lost about 4mm on the height compared to the correct size plan but on checking against the kit I find that the fin on the latter been enlarged further by another 8mm  so I have copied that one.
EDIT: Now its Sunday and I have made a new fin and its all glued back together ready for flight.

Found this video from the states, uva e200 pylon, looks like the plane is an ic class conversion something very similar to what you guys want, interestingly they are quite low powered but still quick and looks like they use the fai size large course
